Marc Jacobs, famous designer for Louis Vuitton, loves, on occasion, working for artistic collaborations.
This was the case with the Japanese Murakami, whose small smiling flowers were seen on the famous Monogram in an exclusive collection. Jules fell in love with the latest collaboration of the American, with another Japanese artist: Yayoi Kusama. Artist of 80 years old, this colorful lady, saw from an early age,
dots of color superimposed to her vision. Through a long and rich artistic journey in the United States and in Japan, she made these dots her trademark. Her visual, crazy, colorful & whimsical world has inspired Marc Jacobs to create a lovely collection of clothing, bags and accessories that dynamize the image of the brand. And above all, to the great joy of Jules, are the decorated window displays: around the silhouette of Yayoi (who still has her beautiful bright red hair), fairy creatures are found.
Jules strolls on the Champs-Élysées just for this explosion of joy that illuminates the top of the avenue!

Do fashionistas believe in fairy tales? You’d better believe it. Christian Louboutin, the designer of shoes that are sold-out all around the world to those in-the-know, has just given life to one of the most iconic fairytale objects in the world: Cinderella’s slippers. The slippers rightly capture the fairytale-feel, with their dainty lace, embroidered with crystals and each adorned with two butterflies: one delicately placed on the toe of the shoes whilst the other sits nicely at the top of the glitter covered heel. The shoes display the Louboutin signature red sole. Disney was at the heart of this unprecedented idea, which was revealed during Paris Fashion Week and will consist of a very exclusive production, as only 20 pairs will be made. These magical heels will not be commercialized… however as part of the re-launching of the new Cinderella box set in Blu-ray and DVD on the 26th of September, Disney will be giving a pair to a few lucky and eternal princesses. So that they can be happy, at least for the duration of a season, because as the shoemaker rightly states, “just like a magic wand, these slippers have the power to grant their wearer confidence, beauty and love…”

Because she’s French.
Because she’s talented.
Because she’s cutting edge. In her design, prints and materials.
Because her silk scarves are bigger than Hermes’, less expensive and so much more original.
Because her vision of fashion is refreshing and modern.
Because she strives, she believes, she’s determinate.
Because she’s sought after by the most exclusive shops.
Because she has the courage to launch into the fashion world alone.
Because she’s a young designer. Made in France. That’s why we like Constance.

Too much.
Enough with the bling.

We want our good old fashioned values back, namely: subtlety, refinement, sophistication, finesse, discretion and above all, discernment.
That’s right, Dandies we’re in desperate need for your comeback!
Now sartorial matters may seem trivial, of course. However, a Dandy is also defined by his art for conversing, his continuing study for aesthetics, fine hobbies and a sort of witty nonchalance which are sure to make him a perfect gentleman.

I can picture him hesitating between a Savile Row or Cifonelli tailor-made suit before his appointment at the barber shop for a wet shave treat. He’s got his key lime colored socks on as he carefully chooses his tiepin and sprays on a bit of Acqua di Parma limited edition cologne.
I can picture him adjusting his elephant skin bracelet from Albanu as he enters Corthay to pick-up his pair of half leather/half suede chocolate Wilfrid shoes. He chooses his art and design books at La Hune library, boulevard Saint Germain and treats himself to a luscious pastry from La Pâtisserie des rêves.
I can picture him at his fitting for a few shirts at Swann & Oscar while he flips through Pentagram’s Feedback to recommend a 1950s butcher’s shop in Brussels and a roadside hot-dog stand in Connecticut to friends. He closes his notebook with its tanned cognac leather cover and puts it back neatly in the inside pocket of his jacket.

My phone rings. I can picture him calling me…

Winter  time. Exit hat and bikini, bare feet and flowy white dresses. Exit cheerful accessories and colorblocking. As we enter the season, we tend to go towards cosy cashmere and woolen fabrics in darker hues: chocolate, black, burgundy. Does that mean we have to totally rule out the sun and the festive colours? What about all those bright colours hanging in your closet, feeling lonely?

Mix and match. Come on, don’t be shy, you’ll see that this yellow blouse that you paid a fortune for and worn twice has a second life during colder times.

Now, you might think yellow is the most difficult colour to assemble but simply tame that top with grey pants or on the contrary awaken a black head to toe outfit.

Pink? An instant feminine feel and good mood enhancer. Coral and pale shades will make navy blue less severe. Fuschia will match any brown.

Yes to red pants to dynamite camel tones!

Teal will reveal different shades of burgundy.

And remember, white in winter will match all colors as long as it is worn appropriately; so get those boots, fur coats and chapkas kicking.

So go ahead, keep on colorblocking even when temperatures go low, you’ll be sure to see a lot of compliments coming your way…

The mother of all questions: WHAT do pin-up girls wear in winter? When I say pin-ups, I am of course referring to Gil Elvgren, Al Buell and their representations of women and the ideal (more like idealised) feminine form. Posing wearing minimal clothing standing on tiptoes ( tip for the allusion of everlasting legs ladies) or while sitting with crossed legs (technique dating back to biblical times to hide cellulite- take note, the angle of folding is truly an art …) and always with their breasts generously on show.

But when they return from summer holidays and winter strikes, what do they wear? One could fall into the trap of the pencil skirt with an open blouse revealing a peek of lace lingerie à la secretary chic with glasses and red lipstick. But no, this would be too easy, too cliché and too autumn. I’m talking about winter, freezing temperatures, icy sidewalks making the task of wearing heels as difficult as walking a tight rope. Does the pin-up become a mere mortal as she blends in with the common crowd
in a puffer jacket (aka Bibendum)?

The pin-up in winter wears off-white cashmere trousers, wide legged and high waisted (naturally) with a knitted turtle neck blending in the same tone, a thin belt in leopard print pony skin to emphasize her perfectly clinched in waist and chocolate-coloured wedged boots to stay balanced. She wraps up in a ermine jacket with a turned up collar, proudly sports an aviator style leather cap with wool lining, and the final touch; leather gloves before braving the winter storm. Ahhh the life of a  pin-up ….

The killer heels, love it…
The belt has been buckled, you get the picture…
Jewellery, getting better and better…
A touch of fur here and there, throw it in…
Nail polish, we play around with it and change it all the time…
Dejà-vu? Touché!
Show your true eccentric side when accessorising! Embody being an angel or a peacock.
A cuff, earrings, a bolero, on a hat, as a necklace, shoe buckles, a clutch bag or even a skirt!
What’s that? But feathers of course!
Go on, take to the skies…

It comes around twice a year: you love seeing the Parisian streets being filled with beautiful people

but it’s always too fleeting and too short lived: if you blink it’s gone! The streets become “catwalks” which is great – we love it, you can use it as an opportunity to perfect your own purchases!

Fashion addicts: Be inspired, as we are being inspired, by the streets during this week in September
(the next opportunity won’t be until Jan 2012): it will be a haven for the latest most fashionable trends. It will be a real opportunity for people with an eye for fashion.

Watch it all, you’ll know how to carry your latest “it- bag”, how to look fashionable with tartan print,
how to expertly pull off bright colours, which hat to choose for “London Calling”… And how about leopard print and snakeskin?

And then you will go out a lot, yes a lot, and you will be surrounded by photos, attitudes, unlikely meetings and you will manage to complete a world tour in the Paris restaurants, bars, private parties and the most fashionable clubs of the moment! It will be almost like prolonging your holiday…

The boarding pass? It’s you!

Fashion; it comes and it goes, forever changing.  But whether it is nude, or the brightest of colour blocks, it has to suit my nails too.

In September, with sunshine kissed hands, I proudly raise the “dragon” red, my first Chanel purchase of the season. The tips of my fingers are chic, I am so Parisian and je l’adore!

In October, I’m a ‘fashion has-been’, so I run around Paris like a mad woman desperately hunting down the nude hue « ballet slippers » by Essie. But alas I cannot find it, and have no choice but to get it Fedexed from New York. Ooo definitely breaking the bank when I tick Express delivery. But I simply had to have it for Baz’ party

Now the end of October and the camel trend has taken the world by storm. I must ABSOLUTELY have the deep purple polish « Bastille my heart » from O.P.I to give my outfit that extra bit of oomph!
In mid-November, I over hear “ but Daaarling how do you NOT have the Chanel ‘505 Particulière’ in taupe?” Panic. I go to 4 different Sephoras  and 5 Marionnauds only to be told that this colour sold out ageeesss ago (with a passing glance from the sales assistant that says it all « poor girl what on earth did you expect?”).
Phew, one month’s rest but once back from my holidays the colour du jour  is« Ski Teal we drop » from O.P.I and I spy it on everyone’s tips. Not to make the same mistakes, I order it immediately online. I smugly head to café Flore and flaunt away…

In February, the boyfriend nags me because our fridge door is full of old (oh, how that old?) nail polish, used once and never finished and now there is hardly any room for eggs and cream and lemons. I smoothly reply that I don’t eat cream (duh). He says I must throw them out. He was the one whom I threw out.
And here I am now, with a discovery that will make all my life threatening problems disappear: Mavala.

Mavala has oh so cute mini 5ml bottle of varnish, which dry super fast (bonus), cost a quarter of a Chanel nail polish (ding ding ding jack pot!) and now I can change colour every week with a simple trip to Monoprix or the pharmacy. So I have wreaked havoc with my « Waikiki Orange” last week and made everyone jealous with my » Sweetie « bubble gum pink hue this week. Plus I finish them so I’ll not only have that extra space in the fridge, but I really am the cat who got the cream!
